O little town of Bethlehem, see how still we see thee lie……”
Rector Phillips Brooks of Philadelphia wrote the words to this well known Christmas carol in 1868, tadalafil on his return from a pilgrimage to the Holy Land. This Christmas, the opening lines are particularly poignant . Bethlehem is indeed still; lacking the usual melee of pilgrims and tourists at this time of year. Many residents have left the town to find work elsewhere.
If the Star in the East that guided the shepherds to the manger two thousand years ago, returned this year it is unlikely any shepherd would even see it. Why? Because the Israelis have built their wall – the barrier – right around the outskirts of Bethlehem; high enough to block from view any star low in the eastern sky.
Today, Bethlehem is a town with sixty percent unemployed. It is unlikely to get any better in the near future.
“O little town of Bethlehem, how still we see thee lie……”
I wonder what Jesus would say?
