Why Do We Pay Them To Kill Us?

One reason why I don’t write often on Sparrow Chat is I’m too busy doing other things. Yet, when I stop to think what I’ve been doing, I can’t really remember. Busy doing nothing, or nothing  of consequence. It’s like the old song from Bing Crosby:

“I’m busy doing nothing, working the whole day through, trying to find lots of things not to do…”

I see they’ve moved the Doomsday Clock forward again: 85 seconds to midnight. This time last year, it was moved forward to 89 seconds to midnight.

Meanwhile UK Prime Minister Starmer is in China cozily chatting away to Xi Jinping while the Chinese dictator is building nukes like they’re going out of fashion. They are most definitely in fashion, as Putin regularly reveals with Red Square fashion displays of his latest toys to obliterate the planet and everything on it. Simon Tisdall had something to say on  that subject in today’s Guardian.

What is it with power? We are so totally incapable as a species of dealing sanely with power, yet we hand it out often to the worst possible people and then complain when they use it against us. We are so ignorant and unintelligent en masse that our only relief is to fight each other, usually at the behest of the power-crazed dictator we handed the power to in the first place.

In the news yesterday, a woman in Aceh Province, Indonesia, fainted and had to be carried to an ambulance after receiving 140 lashes with a cane for having sex outside of marriage and drinking alcohol. Her male companion also received 140 lashes for similar “offences against Sharia law.”

Sharia law? Who the hell came up with that? A power-crazed, body of men who were determined to subjugate people to their will using the name of a divinity to legitimize it.

Which raises another question: police, the military, they are there to protect the populace against individual threat, or a communal threat to the nation. They are paid by the people through their taxes. Why then do the police and the military not come to the aid of the people when they are being oppressed by their own governments?  Every uprising, every protest against tyranny by governments is put down by the police or military happy to do the bidding of the politicians in power.

The atrocities of ICE in America; IRGC Quds Force, and foreign militia in Iran’s mass  slaughter of protesters.

“I’m busy doing nothing, working the whole day through, trying to find lots of things not to do…”

Then I stop; I ask myself, “Why do we pay them to kill us?”
