I've never considered "Paki" to be a racial slur, it's simply a contraction of the full nationality of the person - as you've said. I think he also said "rag head" which is more of a slur, but I don't know the context, so can't comment. I didn't take much notice of the reports. I'm no fan of the royals, and it wouldn't surprise me a bit if they did indulge in racist talk - some of 'em are on record as having said much worse things than Harry did.
